Scripture Based Poetry
What was Mary! thinking when she encountered the Risen Lord in the Garden outside the tomb? Can you hear Jesus calling your name with such love in his voice, that you recognize that it is Him calling? How would you react? Wouldn't you want to cling to him too?
If you read and meditate on scripture frequently, it has to change you somehow. You can't read those words and not be touched in some way to reflect some sort of difference in the way you live life, think about things and even the way you treat other human beings. I believe that we ingest the scriptures and they become part of our soul in just the same way food nourishes every cell of our body.
The Breath of Jesus (John 20:21-22)
What would it have smelled like to be in the upper room on Pentecost? Imagine yourself in that room before and after that mighty wind! How would you feel?
Dancing Like David (2Samuel 6:12-16)
Did David even care what anyone else thought about him dancing in the street - praising the Lord? How do you worship our Lord, are you shy? Do you raise your arms? Do you dance? Does the music move you? God chose David, didn't he choose you as well?
I often hear "something", but I am never sure who it is. So I ask others, "did you call me?" Next time I hear it, I will say, "Speak Lord, your servant is listening!" Would you recognize God's voice, calling out to you?
How Beautiful the Feet (Romans 10:15; Isaiah 52:7)
Are you willing to walk the path that Jesus walked? Carry the message of the Good News wherever you go?
Descent of the Dove (1Corinthians 12:6-11)
Have you ever felt that you definitely have gifts, but aren't sure exactly what they are? You know God wants to use you, but are not sure how? Are you able to recognize your own gifts and talents?
Washing MY Feet? (John 13:1-15)
Put yourself in Peter's place. He doesn't understand why Jesus wants to wash his feet. He thinks it's because they are dirty. Jesus is really showing him how he must treat others. The greatest among men is the servant among them. Are you willing to let Jesus wash your feet and not question him? Are you willing to wash the feet of others?
Mary said YES to God, she could have said no, but she said yes. I've thought a lot recently about her pregnancy and how she was a vessel, a ship, a form of transport to bring Jesus into this world. She was the first human tabernacle. She had to be something special to be chosen. We will never measure up to her, but we can try. We do become human tabernacles once we receive the Body of Christ in Communion, but how do we choose to "give birth" to what we've received. What is it that we should say YES to?
